Victorian Rugby Masters Rules

Teams in the Master’s Grade shall consist of players who are over 35 years of age on the first day of January of the year of the Competition.

All players participating in the Master’s Grade shall be required to be registered with their participating Club prior to taking the field. No club shall permit an unregistered player to take the field and the Board, at its discretion, shall consider penalties against any offending teams ranging from fines, loss of any competition points to expulsion from the Competition.

Each team shall be entitled to have up to a maximum of three (3) players on the pitch at any one time who are under 35 years but not less than 30 years of age, and shall either be newcomers to the game or shall have genuinely retired from Competition Rugby. These underage players shall require a dispensation by the Board to play.

Subject to the agreement of both captains and the Referee, a Master’s Grade match may commence with less than eleven (11) players on either side. The team, which has less than the required number of players, shall forfeit any Competition points which may be applicable. If both teams have less than the required number of players, then no Competition points shall be awarded for the match. In either case the match scores shall stand and shall count in the calculation of team standings.

Players in the Master’s Grade shall adhere to the Laws of the Game as amended annually, and to any special VRU By-Laws designed for this Competition.

There shall be no Finals Series in the Master’s Grade. The winner of the Competition shall be the team finishing the season with the most Competition points.

The major qualification to appear in Master’s Grade shall be that the players enter into the "spirit" of the Competition.
